Lent is a season of Penitence, Reflection and Prayer. We offer many devotional activities that pertain to the traditional Lenten disciplines of Fasting, Almsgiving, and Prayer. The practice of these disciplines goes back to the early days of the church and are meant to help Christians recall and be thankful for our Lord’s atoning death on the cross. The following is a list of opportunities to help with the Lenten disciplines.

ALMSGIVING
In addition to helping those in need, almsgiving reminds us that our heart’s desire is not met in worldly things, but only in God. So, if you make a habit of giving up some luxury for Lent, please consider taking the money you would have spent and giving it to charity. You will see an Offering Box that is marked on all sides with the Charity for the week. This week alms will be taken for our Burmese Immigrants living on Troy Hill. Other Lenten Almsgiving opportunities include the Baby Bottle Campaign, which will run until the end of Lent. Next weeks’ Almsgiving will be for our Special Ed CCD Program. .

BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN
There are bottles in the back of Church—some bottles by the Baptismal font that are ready for your loose change during these weeks of Lent. Your loose change helps to finance the sonograms used to help save many babies’ lives.

LENTEN MASS & STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Lenten Evening Mass is held every Monday in the Church at 7:00 pm. Stations of the Cross are held each Friday in Lent at 7:00 p.m. and every Sunday at 3:00 pm, both in St. Anthony’s Chapel. Eucharistic Devotion is held after Sunday’s Stations.

PENANCE AND RECONCILIATION
The evil we do to each other and the ways we fail to do good are ever present in our loves and in our prayer. The season of Lent allows us to find the strength to renounce evil, to quench our thirst for reconciliation and unity, and to live again in the grace of baptism. All of us are encouraged to share in the joy and renewal of the sacrament of reconciliation. During Lent, private confessions will be offered Saturdays from 12 - 12:30 p.m. and after the 6 p.m. Mass. All are invited to partake in the Communal Reconciliation Service at Holy Spirit Parish (Farragut Street in Millvale) on Tuesday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. Several Priests will be available for confession that evening.

FISH FRY HELPERS NEEDED…
Give a little time this Lent to help out with our Lenten Fish Fry's on Fridays. Can your family give up a Friday to help? Can you give a few hours of prep work during the day on Fridays? Some of the prep work includes brewing coffee, getting the fish batter ready, and some other very easy tasks. If you can’t help during the day, how about helping us serve the dinners? We could use your help this year! Please let Don know by calling him at 412-301-0821 or email him at dcerra572@comcast.net

ATTENTION BAKERS
We are in need of our talented parish bakers to donate a dessert for our weekly Fish Dinners. You may drop your donation off at the school hall. We appreciate your delicious donation!

COMPANIONS ON A JOURNEY
Can you imagine what it would be like to go to a new country and start all over again? New culture, language, surroundings would all be scary and frustrating, On February 24th some members of the parish met with Catholic Charities and listened how we as a parish could help the refugees that are living in our area on this journey. Now, we are asking the rest of the parish if they would be interested in helping. Do you like to shop? Do you like to clean, balance your checkbook or be good parents? These are all life skills that the refugees need guidance in. We are looking for volunteers that would be interested in conducting sessions with the refugees to help them with these skills.

We will be holding a meeting on March 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the school hall. If you think you would want to help them on their journey, please plan on attending. This meeting is only looking for how many parishioners would be willing to help. If there is enough interest we will move forward.

Remember Jesus said: “Whatsoever you do for the least of my brethren that you do unto ME.”
